It is commonly used to soften the deep crease between the nose and the mouth (nasolabial folds).
It is used to fill the triangular broad vertical groove below the corners of the mouth (marionette lines), the chin and area above the lip.
Special soft Restylane (Restylane Lipp) is injected into the lips.
Hyaluronic acid gel (Restylane) is particularly recommended for treatment of hollow tear trough areas (dark deep concavities below the eyes). It is useful in complications of lower eyelid blepharoplasty, such as where there is hollowing from too much fat removal at surgery.
Hyaluronic acid gel (Perlane and Sub-Q) are used for sunken looking eyes with deep concavities above the eye and below the eyebrow (superior sulcus), giving the eyes a sunken socket look. This is often due to loss of fat with age, previous trauma or with a socket without a seeing eye where there is volume lack. Fat is injected in the sub-brow and superior sulcus area if the patient has an eye, or deep into the orbit when there is no seeing eye.
Hyaluronic acid gel (Restylane, Perlane or Sub-Q) are used to add volume for facial hollows in the glabellar region (between the eyebrows on the forehead) and areas of hollowing and fat loss on the cheeks.
